There were many well known actors in the 1920s such as Charles Chaplin, Katherine Hepburn, Joan Crawford and Gary Cooper. By early 1920, Hollywood was famous and people were flaunting over movie stars and flocking to theaters. Movie theaters popped up all over the country and an estimated average of 50 million people a week went to the movies.
Charles (Charlie) Chaplin was an actor born in London, 1889, who started his American acting career after touring America twice while in a dancing troupe. He starred in many famous films including, "Caught In The Rain" which he directed himself, and "The Tramp". Over all, Charlie had over twelve films in which he took part in. He died in 1977. Katherine Hepburn was born in Hartford Connecticut in 1907 and died in 2003. Her first appearance was costarring in "A Bill of Divorcement" with John Barrymore, in which she took Hollywood by storm. Her other films include: "Little Women", "Woman of the Year", "Alice Adams" and "Morning Glory". Joan Crawford was born in San Antonio in 1904 and died in 1977. Her stage career started as a dancer in an MGM production on Broadway and her first movie appearance was "Lady of The Night". People in Hollywood admired her beauty and she was placed under contract for MGM. She appeared in: "Our Dancing Daughters", "The Shining Hour", and "Humoresque" along with many other titles. Gary Cooper was born in Helena, Montana in 1901 and died in 1961. His real name was Frank Cooper, but his agent convinced him to change his name to get him a part in his first film, "The Winning of Barbara Worth". His most famous films are: "For Whom the Bell Tolls", Friendly Persuasion" and "A Farewell to Arms".
