Gugielm Marconi, an electrical engineer, invented the radio telegraph system and long distance radio transmission in Italy in 1874. The era of the radio in America began in 1913 when Edwin Armstrong invented the FM radio. The first transition on the radio was made by Heinrich Rudolf Hertz , who studies electromagnetic waves and physics. Radio broadcasting started in 1920 with the first broadcast of KDKA, which was one of a few radio broadcasting stations. The radio then became a source of entertainment for the American family. Many Americans listened to the radio as a form of entertainment and the radio became a mass media for the public to listen to sports, political commentary, stories and sports.
